Kate’s Personal Journey with Kundalini Awakening

I remember the first time I heard the word Kundalini. It felt mysterious, almost otherworldly. People spoke of it as an energy that lay dormant at the base of the spine, waiting for the right moment to awaken. Some described it as a force of transformation, others as a spiritual awakening unlike any other. But what was it, really? I didn’t totally understand. Some friends of mine had been once and raved about how amazing it was. I just knew I wanted to try it, so I booked in for the next available session. and a group of us went together.

Understanding Kundalini

Kundalini is often referred to as a dormant spiritual energy coiled at the base of the spine, within the Root Chakra. In ancient yogic traditions, it is depicted as a serpent, lying in wait until it is activated. Once awakened, this energy rises through the spine, moving through the chakras, leading to deep spiritual insights, heightened awareness, and sometimes even mystical experiences.

Many spiritual paths, including Yoga, meditation, breathwork, and mantra chanting, aim to awaken this energy. But Kundalini isn’t something that can be forced—it rises when the conditions are right and when the body and mind are prepared to receive it.

My Personal Experience with Kundalini

I feel like I didn’t seek out Kundalini; it found me. My life had changed a lot over the last few years before being introduced to this practice. When I look back now I can see if I had been introduced before then, I would not have been ready for the journey I was about to take. This type of Kundalini practice was different to those you can read about online i.e. kundalini yoga. This practice was a meditation where you were asked to surrender yourself to the energy. The facilitator explained what it was and all the different possibilities that could happen to us during the session, such as tingling sensations and spontaneous body movements, feeling light or very heavy, having visions, or feeling deeply relaxed, emotional realises are common as the energy wants to clear your body of blockages you may have suppressed, the list goes on. What she did say is it’s different for every person and it’s different every session too. So I settled myself down on the mat, ready to relax, suddenly the music came on and my entire body began to shake, I was slightly alarmed at first but then I began to have intense visions, these were not fragmented visions, nothing like having a dream. It felt primal and important. I was still aware of the room around me and my entire body shaking but I was lost to the music which was taking me on a journey and focusing on the vision. I got an overwhelming sense and understanding that my body was just a vessel for my soul and I also got a sense that I had awakened this energy before. But not in this lifetime. The facilitator was reassuring me throughout the session. At the end of the session we were able to share our experiences if we chose to, she said I had a very powerful experience for my first time. No shit Sherlock. Everyone in the room had a different experience, It ranged from different feelings and sensations in parts of the body, being with a dead loved one, and feelings of relaxation and blissfulness, some saw colours, some were dancing, and some people cried (I was one of them who cried). I will admit I was a little freaked out, due the to intensity of my personal first experience. However, In the days that followed, I felt more connected to myself and the world around me than ever before. Colours seemed brighter, my intuition sharpened, and I found myself effortlessly dropping old patterns that no longer served me. I felt blissful and that is exactly why I did it again. I couldn’t even tell you how much I have done it now. But, I can honestly say it has changed my life.

Kundalini is not always a smooth ride. Some people experience emotional releases, physical discomfort, or intense dreams as the energy works through blockages. I had moments of deep peace followed by periods of emotional purging. It was as if years of suppressed feelings and thoughts were coming to the surface to be cleared. But it is not just during the sessions that you will need to work on. It has forced me to confront parts of my life that were making me unhappy and fix them. The Kundalini awakening is only the beginning of this full transformation. you have to be willing to make changes in your life too. So are you ready for that?

The Transformational Power of Kundalini

A fully awakened Kundalini is said to bring enlightenment, deep wisdom, and boundless love. It dissolves the illusion of separateness and reveals the divine nature within us. However, the journey is deeply personal and often challenging. Each individual will experience it in their own way, and there is no fixed timeline or method.

For me, Kundalini awakening has been an ongoing journey of self-discovery, healing, and transformation. There have been moments of pure bliss and moments of deep shadow work. But through it all, I have come to realize that the greatest gift of Kundalini is not just the mystical experiences, but the awakening of a truer, more authentic self.

Final Thoughts

If you are interested in Kundalini, approach it with patience, respect, and guidance from experienced teachers. Awakening is not a race—it is a sacred unfolding of your highest potential. Trust the process, listen to your intuition, and allow the energy to guide you toward your truth.
